Hello. My name is Mike. The two little goobs in the picture with me are my kids Lilybeth and Niko.

My wife, Cassie, and I designed Bump Up The Jam belly headphones for pregnant women after she became pregnant with our second. She struggled with finding a connection with him when all she could do was chase after his big sister.

We noticed that most of the belly headphones on the market had annoying cords and required adapters to even work. Of course these adapters were sold separately. If it doesn’t work right out of the box, I call that “BROKEN.”

Plus, it’s not 2005 anymore. Who wants cables hanging from their belly?

There was one belly speaker that we found, so that’s the one we bought.

However, when we turned it on…

HOLY COW!

This thing played music at an alarmingly loud level. I tried putting it directly against my ear (simulating what a little baby would get in the womb).

Bad choice. Even half volume hurt! You could even hear it down the hall behind two closed doors! Yikes.

I tested the sound and my calibrated microphone measured 117.6 decibels!

A prominent government website says:

110 decibels: “Hearing loss possible in less than 2 minutes”120 decibels: “Pain and ear injury”

Can you imagine a little baby listening to that? It was time for a change!

We had a list of REQUIRED features for Bump Up The Jam:

1. Sound limited to 80 dB (where hearing damage was not possible ever)

2. No wires, cables, cords, or adapters

3. Better tape (the tape of competing products was junk)

4. Simple (setup in 30 seconds or less – no apps, programming, or excessive buttons)

5. Uses earbuds (easiest way for mom to listen along with baby)

That’s when the prototypes started. (39 prototypes to be exact!)

Now the only thing left was to make sure the sound was perfect.

I kept thinking about all those other products with 110+ decibel output and a baby being exposed to deafening sound (while Momma didn’t even know it was happening!) Scary.

That’s why we built Bump Up The Jam with Safe and Sound Technology. I was able to make sure the maximum level of sound output was 78.2 decibels. The range at each volume was a comfortable 50-70 decibels.

The best part was this sound limit was a physical limitation. That meant no matter what device you connect to (Compatible with Apple iPhone, Compatible with Android, Compatible with iPad, Television) the sound baby would hear would never exceed 80 dB. It physically can’t reach levels higher than this. Most importantly, baby’s hearing would always be safe.

Bump Up The Jam started with happiness in mind, but ended with safety being the #1 priority, and I’m happy to say that after enough prototypes, we were able to achieve that AND all the items on our production list. We might not have been able to use it with our children in the womb (they’re already out and running around!), but we are delighted to share our newly designed belly headphones with you to use with your little one!
